Jim Gardner reveals his tweet side
From the Daily News, April 28, 2013.
I’ve been bad about posting clips here mainly because I write four times a week now and I don’t think the majority of those clips are worthy of posterity. But this story is.
In 37 years of holding down the anchor desk, Jim Gardner has done something like three interviews. I got number four. This was a very, very big deal for me and my new precarious position as a gossip columnist, even though this wasn’t gossip. Gardner was supposed to give me 15 minutes, he gave me an hour. I’ve been watching Jim Gardner since I was a little kid, and all I wanted to do was tell him about all those times when I was too small to stay up by myself and my parents would tell me I could watch the first half of whatever 10 p.m. drama they were into. The best days were when they would fall asleep and I could watch the full episode of “NYPD Blue,” sitting on the floor of their bedroom. And how at 11, I would switch to WPVI (we were a WPVI family, to the point where we referred to the TV station by its call letters, rather than, say, ABC) and watch Jim Gardner read the news before one of them would wake up and tell me to go to sleep.
I did, on the other hand, tell him that I know all the words to the Action News theme song. But I did not sing it.
Anyway, I’m proud of this one and it’s been a little while since I’ve been proud. It felt good again for the first time in a long time.
