Philadelphia author Dinah Bucholz adapts recipes from children’s classics
From the AV Club, November 28, 2012.
This article was inspired by my insane desire to try Turkish Delight when I was a child, because C.S. Lewis made it sound so good. I tried it a couple years ago. It is disgusting.

So, let me get this straight: You named your children’s apparel company after a novel that is famous for its portrayals of physical, verbal and sexual abuse, the death of a child via arsenic poisoning and, of course, a couple counts of incest?
Cute clothes, though.

Actor Andrew McCarthy created 2nd career as a travel writer
From the Daily News, Oct. 1, 2012.
Word the wise: Don’t ask former Brat Packers about their days as Brat Packers when doing “second career” interviews. They do not like it.
Also, he pulled something, which I really freaking hate: We were doing this over the phone (so he has no idea what I look like), I was asking informed questions and he made reference to my age (as in, “…before you were born.”) It’s patronizing and I hate it more than everything.

Not so nice: No matter what Dick Clark says, 'American Bandstand' blocked black teens

From the Daily News, March 13, 2012.

Oh man, the sheer amount of underhanded racism I’ve heard this morning is mind-boggling. I’ll post the most racist e-mails later!

Of Salman Rushdie, who once gave him a terrible review in the New York Times, he says: “That flaccid fuckhead. He was detestable. I called up the Ayatollah, nobody knows that.” Roald Dahl: “The cruelty in his books is off-putting. Scary guy. I know he’s very popular but what’s nice about this guy? He’s dead, that’s what’s nice about him.” Stephen King: “Bullshit.” Gwyneth Paltrow: “I can’t stand her.

About

I'm a features reporter at the Philadelphia Daily News and sometimes I write TV reviews for the AV Club. I mainly think about TV, movies and Bruce Springsteen. Here's what I will do here: post my pieces, write in-depth analysis of minor sitcom characters and just generally show off my steez.

All views, even the most awesome, are my own.
